If we look at everything we do as a chore and we dread it, we aren’t going to enjoy the process. If we look at what we do as working toward an end result for God,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we will be more willing to make adjustments as He sees fit. There will even be times where we have to start over completely. We shouldn’t look back at it as a waste of time but a learning opportunity.
Once we understand whatever we have planned may need to change,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we will be able to handle the change better. We should never get our heart set so strongly on doing something in a particular way because there are thousands of ways something can be done. The end result is what is important.
Keeping our eye on the end result and being flexible about the action steps we need to take to reach our goals will help us enjoy the process. Knowing our goals are what God wants us to do will help us get the support we need from Him. When we are willing to start over, try something different or get help from others to accomplish a goal, then we can continue to focus on the end result God wants and we can make a difference.
When we find the end result God wants us to have,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we need to begin taking action. Our action plans are important but we need to ask God for His plans. As we move forward in our plans, we need to understand the results will be more important that the activities we do. It is good to enjoy the process as we work toward a goal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but we have to be flexible and be ready for change.
Romans 6:20-23 “When you were slaves to sin,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you were free from the obligation to do right. And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], things that end in eternal doom. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
There are days where we have plans to do things but by the end of the day nothing we planned to do was accomplished. It could have been due to distractions, other people’s situations or something even greater than what we could have ever imagined. Plans don’t always go as we would like for them to go so we have to plan ahead understanding what we want to do may not always be what God wants us to be doing.

After this exercise you should be able to say without a doubt what it is that you really want in life.

It is often very comfortable for people to just go with the flow in life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], career, and relationships - just simply let someone else take charge, make decisions, provide guidance, and literally do all the hard work of thinking and planning. But is that really all there’s in life for you? Is this going to lead you to the destination you’d like to end up at? Do you know what you want and do you pursue it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or do you live simply on auto-pilot? Let me help you figure out what you really want in each area of your life.
Exercise Two. During my workshops, I usually offer the exercise that activates the mindset of happiness. Here’s what I recommend to do.
Exercise Four. All the best ideas come and go very quickly, and that is the reason why I always recommend to do all exercises with a pen and paper in hand. This time you will write a letter to your very own but much younger self.
- What are the three adjectives you’d like people to use when describing you? If you experience any difficulties finding the right words, you may want to research a list of positive and negative adjectives to help you express yourself.
What positive difference have you made or plan to make? Examples here may include “helped a friend to stop smoking”, “volunteered at a non-profit”, “participated in a fundraiser for a meaningful cause”, “donated blood to a blood bank”, “helped a sick neighbor walk the dog”, “inspired someone to go back to school”, and the like.
How many statements got a ten from you? This exercise should have helped you discover what it is that you really want and need to work toward.
- What kind of a person are you? Just go ahead and describe yourself as “tall”, “smart”,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “kind”,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “procrastinator”, “complainer”, “lazy”, “independent”, “compassionate”, and so on.
- What do you value most? Be honest! Is it “beer and TV”, “money and career”,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “family and children”, “freedom and flexibility”, or what is it, really?
Exercise One. What is your ideal future? One week from now? A month from now? A year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], five and ten years from today? Where would you like to end up in your life?

Write a letter to your younger self (choose the age at which you were the most aspiring and had ambitious expectations of life). Explain to that young person how you have gotten to where you are at right now. Describe what has been motivating and what has been discouraging you. Reveal the details of what you’ve done with the dreams and desires of that young you. Expound where you’re going now and where you see yourself ending up. How does it feel to that young and inspired you to hear what you’re saying on paper now?
